Stuff Coming in Soon – Large 14 Foot Evergreens!

I’ve got a lot of the growers starting to reach out. They’re like, okay, when do you want to ship? I’m like, I can’t see my loading dock. It’s under snow. So I want to ship, but we’re trying to set a lot of stuff up. I think normally we’ll get our first load in the last week of February, first week of March. This year, that’s gonna be pushed back unless we get a crazy warm up here.
It’s gonna push us back a couple weeks. I’m trying to set up everything right now for mid-march and hoping by then we’ve got a warm up. As soon as it gets warm I want to be able to get all the trucks in, get them unloaded, get everything organized, put out for sale. That way in April as the customers start to roll in, my guys aren’t unloading trucks. They’re actually able to help the customer.
We’ve been very lucky the last few years. We’ve had a really mild March and we got in there and got everything done. I think we’ll bring in about 37 semis in the month of March. When the last few come in, we get out the big shoehorn.
The first couple loads that will come in are gonna be large evergreens, big spruce trees, big arborvitaes. We’ve actually got some 14-foot evergreens coming in this year, which is larger than we normally have. But we found some really good deals on some nice evergreens.
I look at it this way. You either have more time or you have more money. A lot of the older folks, they’ll have a screen tree die and they’re looking at their neighbor. If they put a five-footer in there, it’s not really gonna provide a screen for them for quite some time. This is a way you can put an instantaneous screen, and you’re talking about a 14-foot wall. I’ve got a bunch of those coming in this year, I’m excited about that.
Of course, the guys that plant them probably are a little less excited. That’s a service that we provide at the nursery as well. So we sell a lot of stuff to homeowners that take it home and plant it themselves, but then we also offer a planting service for things like that. It’s unlikely that most homeowners are gonna want to come in and deal with a root ball that weighs, you know, 1,800 to 2,000 pounds. So that’s gonna take special equipment, special knowledge on how to move it to keep yourself safe and those working with you safe.
When we plant it, we guarantee it for one year. We guarantee three months 100%, one year 50%. We found over the years that making sure the customer has a horse in the race helps.
