Is There a Set Answer For How Often to Water Plants?

Sometimes when we’re hot and dry, we get into this watering pattern where every day, every day, soak it in the morning, soak it at night, and then we cool back down into the 50s and we keep that same habit, but we have to adjust our habits to the environment that the plants are in.

That is one of the trickiest questions to answer is, how often do I water it? How do I water it? It’s not easy. Yeah, because you can go too much, too little, whatever, either way.

And we’ll ask customers a ton of questions whenever we get asked that question, which is all the time. We have to ask a lot of questions. What’s your soil like? Is it clay? Is it sand? I mean, if you live near Portage Lakes, Lake Cable, Meyers Lake, you’re going to have a sandy and gravelly soil most of the time, and so you’re going to have to water more.

If you’re in an area that’s got a pocket of blue clay, heck, you could put water in the hole, it could be there a week later. It just really depends on the environment, how many hours of sun it is, is it up against a brick home where it’s getting reflective heat, it’s going to consume more water. So there’s all these different questions we have.

How windy, how hot? You have to ask, because there is no set, water it every day at noon for one minute. It isn’t like that for plants. And the more you do it, the better you’re going to get a feel for it.

Because I know like my hanging baskets, I have them right on track, because I know how they’re going to react to things. And usually with hanging baskets, you’re not going to over water them.
