Fun Greenhouse Plants at Christmas

red christmas cactus

Normally you see Christmas cacti in a white or a pink or a red, well we’ve got some that are almost like a yellow to a peach color. They have like a hot pink edge to them. They’re all budded up, just getting ready to come out. They’re really gonna produce a ton of color here over the next couple months.

They are one of the easiest houseplants. It’s very long-lived, I have repotted some for people and I’ve known people that have had them for generations. It’s kind of like a family heirloom kind of thing. If you don’t have the green thumb and you want some color for the Christmas season that’s a great plant to have.

One of my other favorite ones would be the Cyclamen. The foliage itself has got that white frosting on that real dark green foliage, and then the flowers, there’s just so many different colors in the Cyclamen as well. It’s just a really pretty plant, and they’re a really long bloomer too. A lot of times we’ll have them around here or you’ll see them too around Valentine’s Day, because they’ll keep going.

The Norfolk Island Pines are another really nice little novelty house plant, but they’re very, very slow growing. I have seen some that get big, I think the biggest one I ever saw was like 10 feet tall in a customer’s house. It almost looks like a fern, but with soft needles. It’s just a way to add evergreen color on the inside of the house.
