Hellebores in the Greenhouse and Houseplants

Compared to outside, the greenhouse is toasty. When the sun comes out, it is a tropical paradise. It’s wonderful. We do keep it heated and we’ll have it heated all season long, too.
I’m going to say one thing in the greenhouse that would actually survive in our climate. And it’s actually something that’s blooming right now. It’s called a Christmas rose Hellebore.
It’s pretty hardy, but it actually is blooming. Mine, I have one at home, and it’s actually budded right now, which is weird to think, but it does. Actually, it’s my favorite shade plant.
There’s one type called Lenten Rose, they bloom usually in February or March. There’s a lot of different varieties of hellebore, but the one called Christmas Rose, it’s a really early bloom or a late bloom, it depends on how you look at it. But it does bloom around Christmastime.
They’re an evergreen shade plant that’s still around in the warmer weather. I have mine kind of planted almost like a hedge. So I have that nice green foliage in the spring and summer. But they hold their flowers for a really long time. How cool is it to have flowers in the winter weather?
The frost will hit them, and they’re kind of almost like a pansy where they’ll just bounce back and be fine. But that would be like the only thing in the greenhouse that we would have for outside, but we have a lot of house plants and that kind of thing.
One of the easiest suggestions for houseplants we can give is putting plants in the south windows. Right now, because we don’t have a lot of sunlight, and it’s very few and far between when the sun does come out. A south-facing window is really good for almost any plant, because a lot of houseplants like indirect sunlight. This time of year, the sunlight is indirect on its own. South-facing is perfect.
