Japanese Beetles Eating Through New Shrubs

We have a question about beetles here, “Last summer we planted some new bushes and this year the Japanese beetles found them. And I’m wondering what I can put in the ground to kill the grubs and when do I put it on?”
There’s a couple different things that you could do. There is basically pre-emerge with grubs that you could put down like grub control. You’d want to put that down earlier next year, so like early spring, late winter early spring is when you’re gonna want to lay that down.
In terms of taking care of that now, using a topical spray like three in one, something like that would be the best way to give it a little bit of extra protection right now. You’re not gonna be able to do anything essentially right now.
Milky spore is an organic option, It does take a few years to get into the soil. That would be something that you could do now and then you would do again in the spring, but it is something. It’s not going to 100% take care of it right away. It takes a couple years to actually be effective, but it does significantly cut down on the grub population in time.
As far as a GrubEx, You want to do that early spring, like April. The Milky spore you do you want to do that for a few years until it’s really eradicated until you really notice But as far as treating now, because they’re burrowed down into the soil, they’re not going to be doing any feeding until the spring.
