Frost season is upon us.

When there is a threat of frost, you will want to cover your plants with a “breathable” material, such as:

  • Burlap
  • Fabric (sheets)
  • Frost Bags
  • Newspaper

You do not want to use plastic or vinyl materials – these materials can hold in moisture which can damage the plant.

Frost forms at 38° F so cover plants before the temperature falls below 38° F

  • Remove the coverings when the temperatures rise the next day
  • Anti-transpirants and antidesiccants will decrease frost damage if leaves are sprayed before the expected frost
    • Stop plants from losing moisture
    • Typically last about 30 days
