Putting Down Repels-All To Prevent Deer From Eating Bulbs

Nancy in Massillon says, ‘my question is, I had my son plant over 50 bulbs in the fall for daffodils and tulips, and how can I protect them from the deer coming and eating them all?”

Repels-All would be your best bet. Usually they don’t mess with daffodils, but they do like tulips. So it’s a granular deterrent, basically. It’s a repellent, and it does work. You just sprinkle it around, just like where you planted the bulbs, just sprinkle it around the surface, and they’ll smell it, and they’ll go elsewhere.

We carry it at both the stores, at both locations, Everhard and Portage. Either Rohr’s Nursery store has it. I would put it down as soon as you start seeing them peaking up. Or if you do see anything like squirrels or anything messing with it now, you can do it now too, because things are starting to get a little curious.

You’ll put it down about every 30 days, and that just will keep them out of that area. It irritates their nose and their eyes. It doesn’t kill them or anything like that, but it makes it so it’s uncomfortable to be in that area, and then they just go somewhere else.

So generally, after several treatments, usually that behavior has been changed, and they just don’t come back in that area. But you may have to apply it more than one time, about 30 days apart. It’ll work on chipmunks, groundhogs, squirrels, rabbits. It’s pretty broad spectrum.

And it’s safe for pets and stuff too. It’s kind of like garlic. It smells like stinky cheese. It’s not too bad. If you sprinkle it in your flower beds around your deck, you’re not going to smell it up on your deck. If you put your nose right to the ground, it does have an odor to it.
