Specialty Peppers

We have specialty peppers in! If you’re wondering what makes it a specialty, there’s just a lot of like unusual ones that you’re not going to see. There’s a lot of heirloom varieties. We have a lot of different hot peppers, there’s one that’s called Megalodon, there’s scorpion peppers, we have the ghost peppers, and just a whole bunch of different kinds of heirlooms. Just unusual ones besides just your sweet, you know, cubanelles and bell peppers.
For those readers that don’t know, heirloom means that it’s true to seed. So if you would save those seeds, you’re going to get the same species next year. You’re definitely going to get that plant. A lot of peppers and tomatoes and stuff have been bred over the years. They get bred for better growth and disease resistance and that type of thing, but a lot of times you do lose flavors and that type of thing.
Heirlooms are ones that are like old tried and true, they’ve never been modified, and if you save those seeds, you’re definitely going to get a new plant or the same plant next year. Sometimes you do save a seed and you’re not going to get the same thing next year because of the crossbreeding. But an heirloom is basically an old fashioned true variety.
If you’re interested in picking up some ready grown heirlooms or starting your own from seed, we have those ready to go for you! Pick some up from our Portage location, where we have the most extensive collection. Tomatoes, peppers, and more waiting for you!
