What’s Going On at the End of October at Rohr’s Nursery 2026

We did get a lot of nice carving pumpkins in and some fresh mums that are real tight, so we’re gonna show color for weeks yet. And the kind of weather we’re having, this cooler weather kind of keeps them tight. You know, kind of almost like a freezer.

There are trucks of plants still coming in, we’ve got a big one coming today, another big one coming tomorrow, and I already started an order for next week for some things that we were running short on. So we’re still bringing trucks in on a weekly basis, making sure we got fresh stock. And landscapers are still doing jobs like crazy.

It’s still a great time of the year to plant. A lot of people ask that question when they come in this time of year. It’s still a wonderful time of the year to plant. The root system, even though we’ve had a couple frosts now, even though the top of the plants go dormant, the root system is still going to grow for four to six weeks. So if you get it in the ground now, it fully establishes in your soil root wise and then in the spring you’ll get that much more top growth out of it.

So it’s a great time to plant still, and for dividing perennials and that kind of thing. Hostas, daylilies, a lot of times iris. If you see the center dying out in perennials, I see it in autumn joy sedum, that kind of thing. It’s usually a good indication to divide them. You usually either dig it up, or you can just take a sharp spade down in the ground there, get a big chunk and put it somewhere else, or give it to somebody.
