Frost season is upon us.
When there is a threat of frost, you will want to cover your plants with a “breathable” material, such as:
- Burlap
- Fabric (sheets)
- Frost Bags
- Newspaper
You do not want to use plastic or vinyl materials – these materials can hold in moisture which can damage the plant.
Frost forms at 38° F so cover plants before the temperature falls below 38° F
- Remove the coverings when the temperatures rise the next day
- Anti-transpirants and antidesiccants will decrease frost damage if leaves are sprayed before the expected frost
- Stop plants from losing moisture
- Typically last about 30 days
